Why Salsa is the Perfect Replacement for Pumpkin Spice with pumpkins lined on the bottom of the image

Why Salsa is the Perfect Replacement for Pumpkin Spice

Traditionally, cool weather and leaves changing from bright green to autumn red, gold, and orange, has signaled that Fall is here. But lately, that’s changed. Instead, we recognize the beginning of Fall when pumpkin spice flavors come back. But is there an alternative to pumpkin spice? What if you don’t share the love for everything pumpkin? If you’re looking for something different that still tastes great, we thought we’d give you some insight into why salsa is the perfect replacement for pumpkin spice. Avoid Pumpkin Spice Overload with Salsa From coffee, cereal, candy, ice cream, cookies, and even soda it can feel like pumpkin spice flavored food and drinks are everywhere. Finding an alternative to this fall flavoring can seem like a challenge, that’s why we’re here to help. Here are a few reasons why salsa is a great alternative to pumpkin spice. It’s Healthier and Made from All Natural Ingredients- did you know that a pumpkin spice latte has 380 calories and more than 14 grams of fat? On top of that, it’s full of ingredients like Potassium Sorbate and Carrageenan. Salsa, on the other hand, is made of all-natural ingredients you can pronounce like onions, peppers, and tomatoes. It’s also low in calories too. It’s More Versatile- while it seems like every food company on the planet is jumping in on the pumpkin spice craze, pumpkin spice doesn’t have the culinary versatility that salsa does. From queso and guacamole to chili and tacos, salsa tastes great added to any dish. It can also be used to liven up marinades, dressings, and soups, something we don’t recommend doing with pumpkin spice. It Comes in a Variety of Flavors- pumpkin spice only comes in one flavor, pumpkin spice. Salsa, on the other hand, comes in a variety of flavors from mild to hot. With different spice levels, they’re great for any flavor palate and sure to be a crowd pleaser. It’s Great for Parties- fall means football, and chips and salsa are the perfect addition to any tailgate party.  That's something that’s hard to do with pumpkin spice. The 8 Things You Must Do for a Successful Dinner Party

If you're planning to host a dinner party and want to ensure that the evening is a complete success for everyone who attends, here are the eight most important things to do:   Pick the Right Group   Choose friends who get along well and have similar interests or other things in common. If you’re looking to spice things up with a wildcard invitee or two, make sure they'll fit in and won't make the rest of your guests uncomfortable.   Go with What You Know   Make dishes you’ve whipped up at least once or twice before the big event. If you’re used to cooking a specific casserole, practice making it in a larger, party-worthy size. The reason is sometimes volume can affect cooking time.   Try Something New   While you'll want to follow the tip above and utilize recipes you know well for most of the evening's food, this event is the perfect opportunity to sharpen your skills by trying one new recipe. If you need some inspiration, our Salsa Stories page has a lot of really yummy options.   Check Your Inventory Ahead of Time   Make sure you have all necessary accouterments, including serving dishes, wine glasses, extra plates and dessert forks, the weekend before the party. This will prevent you from ending up in a position where you’re rushing around the day of the party trying to buy or borrow them.   Do the Hard Work First   Try to get as much prep work as possible out of the way ahead of time. Go with recipes that include instructions on how to plan ahead and mention what can be prepared up to a day or two early. Two easy tricks are to chop veggies the day before the party and to make baked desserts a few days prior to the big event.   Clean As You Go   It might seem like a pain at the moment, but it’s usually a good idea to wash pots and pans as you finish using them. That way, you won’t have a scary pile of dirty dishes at the end of the night.   Delegate   Ask reliable friends to contribute to the meal by bringing desserts, drinks or side dishes. If party-goers ask how they can help, good options to delegate include slicing citrus fruit for cocktails, filling water glasses or doing some other easy but helpful task.   Dim the Lights   Low light will put everyone at ease and create an intimate atmosphere that's perfect for lots of great conversation. Turn down harsh overhead lights and light some candles. Christmas lights are always a good option too if you want something a little more festive.

3 Steps to Hosting the Perfect Game Night

If you want to have a ton of fun by hosting a game night, we have the 3 steps you need to make it a perfect game night:   Pick the Right Games   Although this may sound obvious, the reason we wanted to cover it is many people think they have to only play a single game during the night. While some games can take that long to finish, many others go much faster. So if you want to maximize everyone's fun, don't hesitate to cycle through multiple games.   As you're considering which games you want to pick, there are three main categories available. Parlor games are first. This category includes Bunco, How's Yours and Mafia. Board games are second. These can vary a lot in length. Great options to consider for a game night are Apples to Apples, Say Anything and Wits & Wagers.   Electronic games are the last category you may want to include an option from. A few picks that work really well for groups are Catch Phrase, Scene It TV Edition, and Wii Carnival Games. Keep in mind that you don't necessarily have to make these picks on your own. It can be really enjoyable to get everyone involved by voting as a group ahead of time.   Create a Theme   Once you know which games are going to be played during the evening, one step you can take to really make your night memorable is to create a theme. While there aren't any rules you have to follow in regards to the theme you choose, an easy but really fun one to go with is creating a type of casino environment.   Want to make a great table runner that goes perfectly with this type of gaming theme? All you need to do is arrange playing cards on a sheet of paper, make several color copies and then tape them together. This will give you the perfect decoration for your dining-room table.   Serve Delicious Food   No game night is going to be complete without really delicious food. If you want to get inspired, our Salsa Stories blog is a great place to start! We have a wide range of recipes that work perfectly for this type of event, including a Beef and Scottsome Heat Skillet, Sloppy Joe's and Salas & Pasta dish.

Beef and Scottsome Heat Skillet Recipe

We all know that cooking at home is a great idea. Not only can it help your family save money, but it also gives you control over the calories and ingredients that everyone eats. While the benefits of cooking at home are clear, that doesn't mean it's always easy to do. Given how busy most households are, trying to come up with tasty ideas, make them and then clean up can feel like an overwhelming burden. Fortunately, just a little bit of planning can make things much easier. By finding recipes like the one we're going to share, your family can enjoy all the benefits of cooking at home without feeling like you're trying to tackle too much. That's because you can easily get all the necessary ingredients, prep and cook in less than thirty minutes, along with only having a single pan to wash after everyone is done eating. What You Need for the Beef and Scottsome Heat Skillet A pound of lean ground beef is at the core of this recipe. You'll also want a can of red kidney beans and can of whole kernel corn, both undrained. Combine this with an 8 ounce can of tomato sauce, 2 teaspoons of chili powder, 1.5 cups of Original Bisquick mix, a half cup of milk and a half cup of the shredded cheese of your choice (we recommend Colby-Monterey Jack). You'll also want to grab a jar of our Scottsome Heat salsa and then use two cups of it in the dish for really delicious flavor. How to Make This Yummy Recipe As we mentioned above, this is a recipe that's very easy to clean up. What's also quite appealing about it is how easy it is to make. Start by cooking the beef over medium heat. Once it's brown, drain and then stir in the kidney beans, corn, tomato sauce, 1 of the chili powder teaspoons and the Scottsome Heat salsa. With a second bowl, create a soft dough by stirring the Bisquick mix, teaspoon of chili powder and milk. You can then drop spoonfuls of it on top of the beef. Finish the recipe by covering the skillet and allowing it to cook for around twenty minutes. Sprinkle on the cheese after those twenty minutes and let it melt for a few more minutes. Then you'll be able to enjoy all the tasty goodness of this recipe with your family! By following those simple steps, you'll be able to make a great dish that packs a lot of flavor. We hope you give this recipe a try soon and that your whole family enjoys it! And if you have other tasty recipes that are easy to make and clean up, we'd love for you to share them with us!
Mama Flasch's Sloppy Joe's

Mama Flasch’s Tailgating Sloppy Joe Recipe

There are several reasons why tailgating is so much fun. One of those reasons is delicious food. If you're hosting a tailgate or just want to bring something delicious to the one you're attending, we highly recommend sloppy joes. Not only is this a really tasty option, but it's quite easy to prep and can be enjoyed in several different ways. If that all sounds great, keep reading to learn exactly what you need, as well as how to best prep this dish.   5 Ingredients for Sloppy Joes   Even if you need to make this dish ASAP, you'll be able to quickly gather up what you need. The first ingredient is 1 pound of ground beef. Next is 1 can (10-3/4 ounces) of condensed tomato soup, undiluted. You'll also need 1 tablespoon of brown sugar.   The fourth ingredient is salsa. Depending on how much kick you want to give your sloppy joes, you can go with our Gregular, Scottsome Heat or InCindyary fresh salsa. And finally, you'll want a pack of 8 hamburger buns. This amount of ingredients will make eight servings, so you may want to double or even triple depending on the size of the tailgate.   Make Delicious Sloppy Joes in Just 20 Minutes   Once you've grabbed the above ingredients, you'll want to put the pound of beef in a large skillet. Cook on medium heat until it's no longer pink. Drain the skillet, then stir in the tomato soup, brown sugar and salsa. Then all you need to do is cover the skillet and let the ingredients simmer together for ten minutes.   If you're wondering how to keep your sloppy joes nice and hot prior to serving them at the tailgate, you can use an insulated food carrier. Another option is to transform a standard cooler into hot storage. Simply wrap bricks in heavy-duty aluminum foil and heat them in the oven at 300 degrees for around 20 minutes. Line the bottom of the cooler with dish towels and carefully place the bricks in an even row inside the cooler. Then place the container with your sloppy joes on top of the hot wrapped bricks. You can keep everything in place with more rolled up towels.   We hope you enjoy making and sharing this recipe! If you have any other favorite ways to enjoy our salsa while tailgating, be sure to send us your recipe through our salsa stories page.

How to Throw the Best Tailgating Party

Set the start time for your tailgate for about four hours before the game. This will give everyone time to actually show up and socialize. Then you can serve your main courses around two hours prior to kickoff. Following this schedule will provide plenty of time for setting up, having fun and then cleaning up.   Planning on serving kebabs? Save yourself time by skewering and marinating them the night before. This will also maximize their flavor. Burger patties are another food you can easily prep the night before your tailgating party. Once they're shaped, you can pack them between sheets of wax paper. You can also slice and pack any toppings you want to serve with the burgers.   Since you're probably going to have multiple coolers, be sure to label each one with what's inside. This will make it easy for guests to know which ones to open. For coolers that are full of beverages, freeze water bottles and use the bottles as ice. This will save you from needing to dump out the coolers later. It will also provide extra hydration later in the day.   Although you and your guests will have an absolute blast tailgating, the fun will eventually have to come to an end. When it does, you'll want to have a large plastic tub handy. Having the tub lined with a garbage bag will make it easy to throw in any dirty items that you need to dispose of.   Need to keep food warm? A cool hack is to take a regular cooler, put hot bricks wrapped in foil inside of it and then use this container for any items that you want to keep warm.   One way to take your tailgating game to the next level is by converting the back of your car into a fully-stocked bar. All you need is a set of shelves, and then you can use this space to have fun options like Bloody Marys ready for your guests.   In addition to the main food you plan to serve, it's important to have plenty of tasty snacks. Salsa is a great choice thanks to all the different ways you can use and enjoy it. We're always sharing our favorite ideas, so be sure to scroll through our salsa blog if you need any inspiration.

What you may not realize is you can combine this option with any heat of salsa for an even more delicious experience. Best of all, it's surprisingly easy to make hummus from scratch.   All you need is 1 can of garbanzo beans, 3/4 cup of Mama Flasch's salsa, a dash of cumin, 2 cloves of garlic, 2 tablespoons of minced onion, 1/2 cup of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of tahini and 1 leaf of cilantro. Simply combine all of these ingredients in a food processor and pulse. Then you can put your homemade hummus in the fridge until you're ready to enjoy it. Combine with pita chips or the crunchy snack of your choice, and you'll have a delicious option that's easy to share. Scrambled Eggs with Salsa   A scenario we can all relate to is being at home on a Saturday or Sunday. It's mid-morning, and you want something filling to eat but don't feel like making an entire meal. This is the perfect opportunity to whip up scrambled eggs. Not only does this option have quite a bit of protein to keep you full, but you can make it very quickly with minimal mess. And by adding Mama Flasch's salsa, you'll get to enjoy the really awesome flavor. Lettuce Wraps with Salsa   Another common scenario we've all experienced is being at home for lunch or dinner. While you do want a meal, you'd prefer to keep it on the lighter side. Lettuce wraps are an awesome choice for this type of snack meal. In addition to being easy to make, you can put anything from chicken to fish to turkey in them. This can be a tasty and smart way to use leftovers. If you have any avocado in your fridge, it goes great on lettuce wraps as well. For the finishing touch, add Mama Flasch's salsa to tie all the flavors in your wrap together.   We hope that you enjoy trying out these different healthy salsa snacks!
